Notes

About this comparison

We scored 6 video conferencing services on 20 metrics. The most important question for the consumer and SME: is the real monthly price revealed without contacting or only as part of an Office365 or Workspace bundle, are the real limits of the free tier (time limit and participant count) stated, and are recording, data location and cancellation stated before you register?

A video conferencing service is often chosen based on the free tier, but it is precisely the limits of the free tier that decide whether it works in everyday use. We compared the transparency of six services' prices, free-tier limits, participant and duration limits, recording and data location. We show the source of each score so that, before registering, you can see where your meeting gets cut off and where its data is located.

What transparency means in this category

Monthly price publicly displayed without contacting (20), actual limits of the free tier (time limit and number of participants) stated (18), participant and meeting duration limits itemised by plan tier (15), recording and cloud storage stated (12), EU or GDPR data location and data protection stated (12), contract term and cancellation stated (8), owning company stated on the site (15)

Transparency is 30% of the basic metrics, i.e. 15% of the total points · these metrics make up its 100 points · the full formula and the other pillars

How to read the comparison correctly: Half of the points come from buyer's questions, i.e. things the buyer finds out before deciding. The other half measures how openly the company publishes its prices, terms and contact details. Clear differences in points indicate a genuine difference: one tells you the price immediately, another only after logging in. Close scores should not be read as a ranking order, because every measurement has a margin of variation. The measurement accuracy and the full calculation formula are open in the methodology.

Customer experience is brought into the assessment separately. We also collect customer feedback and customer experiences about companies through separate surveys. The survey results will be added to the overall assessment later.

Free-tier limits are often hidden. Almost all have a free version, but the limits vary wildly: on Zoom a group meeting is cut off at 40 minutes, on Google Meet and Microsoft Teams at 60 minutes, on Zoho Meeting at 60 minutes. The participant cap is typically 100. Jitsi Meet's public service is entirely free and does not require an account. Check the time limit and number of participants before building your recurring meetings on the free tier.

The real monthly price can be hidden in a bundle. Zoom, Whereby and Zoho Meeting state a separate monthly price. For Google Meet and partly Microsoft Teams, the price for business use is not separate but part of a Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 package, which makes the video conferencing share hard to separate. For each we show the cheapest plan on display.

Meeting data location and ownership vary. Whereby (Norway) and Zoho Meeting (EU data centres available) emphasise European data processing, and Jitsi Meet can be installed on your own EU server. Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams are North American operators whose exact data location and EU data practices require reading the privacy notice. We show the owning company for each.

How Suomen Paras assesses and scores

Every company is measured with the same public formula: half of the points come from buyer's questions and half from basic metrics, which have four pillars: technical quality, transparency, reachability and AI quality score. Ranking cannot be bought, and you can see the origin of each point on the company's profile. Read the full methodology →

Expert tips

Frequently asked questions

How long can you hold a meeting with free video conferencing?

It depends on the service. On Zoom's free tier a group meeting is cut off at 40 minutes, on Google Meet, Microsoft Teams and Zoho Meeting at 60 minutes. Jitsi Meet's public service has no fixed time limit.

Why is video conferencing pricing hard to compare?

For some services the price is not separate but part of a larger package. Business use of Google Meet and partly Microsoft Teams is included in a Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 subscription, so the share of video conferencing alone is hard to separate.

Where is meeting data located?

Whereby (Norway) and Zoho Meeting (EU data centres available) emphasise European data processing. Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams are North American, and finding the exact location of data requires reading the privacy notice. Jitsi can be installed on your own EU server.

How many participants can join a video conference?

On free tiers the cap is typically 100 participants. On paid tiers the number grows by tier: for example Microsoft Teams and Zoom 300, Google Meet as a live stream up to 1,000 participants.
