We scored 6 online shops for boating supplies and equipment on 19 metrics: technical quality, transparency, reachability and AI quality. The key question: can you see the product price, delivery costs and stock level before you enter your payment card details?
In an online shop for boating supplies, the consumer's main questions are: is the product's price visible without logging in, how much does delivery cost and can the product be delivered immediately. The boating season is short, so the right part at the right time is decisive. We compared the transparency of six Finnish boat supply online shops: price visibility, delivery terms, return and warranty terms, stock level visibility on the product page and openness of company information.
Product prices shown without logging in (25), delivery methods, costs and free-delivery threshold stated before checkout (20), return and warranty terms publicly available (20), stock level or availability shown on the product page (15), business ID (Y-tunnus) shown on the site (10), independent assessment source shown (10)
Transparency is 30% of the total points · these metrics make up its 100 points · the full formula and the other pillars
How to read the comparison correctly: Score measures how openly a company publishes its prices, terms and contact details, not what kind of service it gives its customers. Clear differences in points indicate a genuine difference: one states the price immediately, another only after logging in. Close scores should not be read as a ranking order, because every measurement has a margin of variation. The measurement accuracy and the entire calculation formula have been laid open in the methodology.
Customer experience is brought into the assessment separately. We also collect customer feedback and customer experiences about the companies through separate surveys. The results will be added later to the overall assessment, so that the Score tells not only about transparency but also about how customers experience the company's service.
All six are Finnish companies. Each has a business ID (Y-tunnus) registered with PRH and its own consumer online shop. Venetarvikkeet.com and Nautikulma display the business ID (Y-tunnus) on the site; for some it is found only in the delivery terms.
Stock levels and delivery costs are the industry's pain points. The boating season is short, so knowing whether a product is available for immediate delivery is important to the consumer. The comparison rewards shops that show stock levels on the product page and delivery costs and the free delivery threshold before checkout.
Every company is measured with the same public formula across four pillars: technical quality, transparency, reachability and AI quality assessment. A ranking cannot be bought, and you can see the origin of every point on the company's profile. Read the full methodology →
Yes. In all six online shops product prices are shown without logging in or registering, and the prices include value added tax.
Maritim states the free-delivery threshold (over 50 euros) and the 10-euro charge below it directly in its delivery terms. Venetarvikkeet.com and Marinea state a free-delivery threshold (over 100 euros), and Marinea shows delivery costs with examples in the shopping basket.
Nautikulma shows its own stock and the supplier's stock on the product page with a colour code, at Marinea availability is almost real-time and Maritim uses colour markers. Some shops state only in general terms that the products are in stock.
All have a 14-day right of return under the Consumer Protection Act. Marinekauppa and Maritim promise free returns, while for some the return costs remain the customer's responsibility. Made-to-order products do not always have a right of return.
