We scored 8 online shops for office supplies on 21 metrics. The most important question for a business buyer: are prices, delivery time, delivery costs and invoicing terms visible before ordering, or are they hidden behind an account customer relationship?
Online shops for office supplies sell the same copy paper, pens, ink cartridges and break room products, so for the business buyer what matters is not so much the range as how openly the shop states its terms before ordering. We compared eight office supply online shops operating in Finland on whether product prices are visible without logging in, whether delivery time, delivery costs and invoicing terms are stated, and whether an order can be placed directly online. Some shops show prices to anyone, others only to a registered account customer.
Product prices visible in the online shop without logging in or an account (22), delivery time stated (e.g. 1-2 working days) (14), delivery costs or free delivery threshold stated (14), business customer invoicing or account customer status stated (12), breadth of selection or number of products shown (10), right of return or exchange and its terms shown (10), product can be ordered directly from the online shop (10), business ID (Y-tunnus) shown (8)
Transparency is 30% of the total points · these metrics make up its 100 points · the full formula and the other pillars
How to read the comparison correctly: Score measures how openly a company publishes its prices, terms and contact details, not what kind of service it gives its customers. Clear differences in points indicate a genuine difference: one states the price immediately, another only after logging in. Close scores should not be read as a ranking order, because every measurement has a margin of variation. The measurement accuracy and the entire calculation formula have been laid open in the methodology.
Customer experience is brought into the assessment separately. We also collect customer feedback and customer experiences about the companies through separate surveys. The results will be added later to the overall assessment, so that the Score tells not only about transparency but also about how customers experience the company's service.
Who is on the list? Included are Finnish office supplies web shops that serve businesses nationwide and have their own live web shop. Not included are general retailers where office supplies are just one product group among others, nor regional single-city operators. Brands of the same owner are counted once: Wulff owns Staples Finland and Lyreco bought Officeday, so they appear under their parent company.
What do we measure? The comparison concerns an online shop's transparency to a business buyer: whether product prices are visible without logging in, whether delivery time, delivery costs and the free delivery threshold are stated, whether invoicing and account customer status are explained, whether the breadth of the range and return terms are displayed, whether an order can be placed directly online and whether the business ID (Y-tunnus) is visible. We do not measure who has the lowest prices or the widest range, but how openly the shop states its terms before ordering. Some operators only show prices to account customers, which lowers transparency for a new buyer.
Bot or server blocking is a measurement gap. If an online shop was behind a bot or cookie wall or the page did not respond at the time of measurement, it is marked as a measurement gap, not as zero. Walls are not circumvented.
Every company is measured with the same public formula across four pillars: technical quality, transparency, reachability and AI quality assessment. A ranking cannot be bought, and you can see the origin of every point on the company's profile. Read the full methodology →
In most shops they are visible. Toimistomaailma, Toimistotarvike, Toimistotarviketukku, ECO-toimistotarvikkeet, VIP Office and Wulff's consumer shop show prices without logging in. Officepro's actual online shop and Lyreco show prices only to an account customer entitled to order.
Yes, invoicing is the most common payment method for business customers in these shops. Invoicing may include a credit check using the business ID (Y-tunnus), and some shops offer a separate account customer arrangement for regular orderers.
A company does not have the same automatic right of return as a consumer. A return generally has to be agreed in advance, the product is returned in its original packaging, and some shops refund only part of the price. Check the shop's exchange and return terms before ordering.
Transparency for the business buyer: whether prices, delivery time, delivery costs, invoicing, range and return terms are visible before ordering. We do not measure who has the cheapest prices, but how openly the shop discloses its terms before you have to register or make contact.
