We scored 7 packaging materials web shops on 22 metrics. The key question for a business buyer: are prices, minimum order quantities, delivery costs and delivery time visible before ordering, or do they only become clear through a request for quotation or behind a business account?
Online shops for packaging materials sell cardboard boxes, mailing bags, bubble wrap bags, tapes, stretch film and filler materials to businesses and consumers alike. What matters to the buyer is not just the list price but how openly the shop states the total cost and terms before ordering: whether product prices are visible without logging in, and whether the sales unit, delivery costs in euros, delivery time, return terms and the company's business ID (Y-tunnus) are stated. In this comparison, the scores are based on how easy it is to find this information on the shop's own site.
Product prices visible in the online shop without logging in or a quote request (22), minimum batch size or sales unit size stated on the product (12), delivery costs or free delivery threshold stated (14), delivery time stated (e.g. 1-3 working days) (12), recyclability or ecological nature of the material stated (10), invoicing or account customer arrangement for business customers stated (8), product can be ordered directly from the online shop (8), right of return or exchange and its terms displayed (8), business ID (Y-tunnus) displayed (6)
Transparency is 30% of the total points · these metrics make up its 100 points · the full formula and the other pillars
How to read the comparison correctly: Score measures how openly a company publishes its prices, terms and contact details, not what kind of service it gives its customers. Clear differences in points indicate a genuine difference: one states the price immediately, another only after logging in. Close scores should not be read as a ranking order, because every measurement has a margin of variation. The measurement accuracy and the entire calculation formula have been laid open in the methodology.
Customer experience is brought into the assessment separately. We also collect customer feedback and customer experiences about the companies through separate surveys. The results will be added later to the overall assessment, so that the Score tells not only about transparency but also about how customers experience the company's service.
Who is on the list? Included are Finnish packaging material online shops that sell cardboard boxes, mailing bags, bubble bags, tapes and fillers nationwide and have their own live online shop. Not included are general warehouse or furniture wholesalers where packaging supplies are only part of a wide range. All seven are independent companies with different owners.
What do we measure? The comparison concerns the online shop's transparency to the buyer: are product prices visible without logging in, are sales unit or minimum order stated, delivery costs in euros, delivery time and material recyclability, are invoicing and return terms stated, can you order directly online and is the business ID (Y-tunnus) visible. We do not measure who has the lowest prices or widest range, but how openly the shop states its terms before ordering. Some operators sell only to businesses and require a business ID (Y-tunnus), which excludes the consumer buyer.
Bot or server blocking is a measurement gap. If an online shop was behind a bot or cookie wall or the page did not respond at the time of measurement, it is marked as a measurement gap, not as zero. Walls are not circumvented.
Every company is measured with the same public formula across four pillars: technical quality, transparency, reachability and AI quality assessment. A ranking cannot be bought, and you can see the origin of every point on the company's profile. Read the full methodology →
At most of the online shops in the comparison, product prices are visible without logging in, typically excluding value added tax (VAT 0%). Some operators, however, sell only to businesses with a business ID (Y-tunnus), in which case ordering requires a business customer account even if prices are visible.
The delivery cost depends on the shop and delivery method. At its clearest it is a fixed fee (for example about 8-19 euros) or free once a certain order threshold (often over 250 euros, VAT 0%) is exceeded. At some shops the euro amount is only revealed at checkout, once the delivery address has been entered.
Some shops serve both businesses and consumers, but many packaging supply shops sell only to businesses, organisations and associations and require a business ID (Y-tunnus). It is worth checking the shop's delivery terms to see who can order.
A consumer customer in distance selling generally has a 14-day right of return under the Consumer Protection Act for unused products. In business-to-business trade there is no automatic right of return, and returns are always agreed separately with customer service.
