We scored 6 ice hockey equipment online shops on 20 metrics: technical quality, transparency, reachability and quality of information. The key question: can you see the stick's price, flex and blade pattern, the skate size and the delivery and return costs, and is the sharpening service stated before you enter your payment card details?
Ice hockey equipment is increasingly bought online, and shops vary greatly in how openly they state the product's price, technical specifications and terms. We compared six Finnish specialist ice hockey online shops on transparency, reachability and quality of information. All are Finnish companies registered with PRH that have their own online shop and consumer prices.
Product prices shown without logging in (25), delivery costs and free-delivery threshold stated before checkout (15), return and warranty terms publicly available (15), stick flex and blade or skate size and the condition of used items stated on the product page (20), skate sharpening or equipment servicing mentioned (10), stock level or availability visible on the product page (5), business ID (Y-tunnus) or responsible company clearly stated (10)
Transparency is 30% of the total points · these metrics make up its 100 points · the full formula and the other pillars
How to read the comparison correctly: Score measures how openly a company publishes its prices, terms and contact details, not what kind of service it gives its customers. Clear differences in points indicate a genuine difference: one states the price immediately, another only after logging in. Close scores should not be read as a ranking order, because every measurement has a margin of variation. The measurement accuracy and the entire calculation formula have been laid open in the methodology.
Customer experience is brought into the assessment separately. We also collect customer feedback and customer experiences about the companies through separate surveys. The results will be added later to the overall assessment, so that the Score tells not only about transparency but also about how customers experience the company's service.
Stick flex and blade, and skate size, are the most important product details for ice hockey equipment. A stick is chosen according to the player's size and playing style, so the stick's stiffness, blade shape and length directly affect play. For used equipment, the product's condition grade is decisive. The comparison rewards shops that show the product's price, technical specifications and availability, as well as delivery and return terms, before purchase.
Skate sharpening and equipment servicing are an additional service that sets an ice hockey shop apart. Some specialist shops offer a sharpening service with a price list and equipment servicing, which gives the consumer added value on top of a plain online shop. We measure whether the shop states this service clearly.
All stores in the comparison are Finnish companies. Hockey Base, Urheilu Pajala, Kiekkobussi, Tackla, Kokkolan Hokikauppa and Sportti Thurman are all Finnish companies registered with PRH. Some show their business ID (Y-tunnus) clearly on their website, others do not, even though the company is registered. The business ID (Y-tunnus) metric assesses how clearly the responsible company is shown on the site.
Every company is measured with the same public formula across four pillars: technical quality, transparency, reachability and AI quality assessment. A ranking cannot be bought, and you can see the origin of every point on the company's profile. Read the full methodology →
At all six stores compared, product prices are visible without logging in or creating an account.
As a starting point a consumer has a 14-day right of return, but for used products the return generally applies only to unused products in their original packaging. Always check the shop's return terms.
Sportti Thurman has its own sharpening price list, and Hockey Base and Kiekkobussi have equipment care and maintenance services in their stores.
